Delivering Warehouse Power, Lighting & Communications Infrastructure

DSV / DB Schenker | Middlewich

Project Overview

WH88 delivered a programme of electrical and communications upgrades for DSV / DB Schenker, supporting the reconfiguration of an existing warehouse for Milliken’s 3PL operation.

The works required alterations to the existing warehouse infrastructure alongside the installation of new distribution, lighting, workstation power, forklift charging and communications services to suit the revised operational layout.

Our package covered the electrical installation from distribution and high-level containment through to final testing, commissioning and certification.

Scope of Works

The WH88 package included:

  • Installation of new electrical distribution boards

  • Alterations and extensions to the existing electrical distribution

  • Relocation of high-level suspended busbar systems

  • New lighting busbar systems

  • Relocation and installation of warehouse lighting

  • Reconfiguration of lighting to suit the revised warehouse layout

  • New power supplies for operational workstations

  • Dedicated supplies for forklift charging stations

  • New Wi-Fi infrastructure

  • Starlink installation

  • Associated containment and cabling

  • Testing, commissioning and certification

Warehouse Power & Lighting

A significant element of the project involved adapting the existing high-level electrical infrastructure to suit the new warehouse configuration.

Suspended busbar and lighting systems were relocated and extended, with new lighting busbar and fittings installed where required. The warehouse lighting layout was then reconfigured around the revised operational areas to provide suitable coverage while making use of the existing infrastructure where practical.

New distribution boards and power supplies were installed to serve the revised layout, including workstation locations and dedicated forklift charging facilities.

Communications Infrastructure

Alongside the electrical works, WH88 installed new communications infrastructure to support the operation of the facility.

This included the installation of additional Wi-Fi infrastructure throughout the warehouse together with a Starlink system, providing the site with the connectivity required for its operational and logistics systems.

The electrical and communications installations were coordinated together to ensure power and data services were available at the required locations as the warehouse layout developed.

Coordination and Delivery

Working within an existing logistics facility required the installation to be coordinated around both the revised warehouse layout and ongoing site operations.

High-level works, distribution alterations, lighting, workstation supplies and charging infrastructure were programmed to suit the operational requirements of the facility while allowing the wider warehouse reconfiguration to progress.

Particular consideration was given to the positioning of services so that the completed electrical installation supported the new layout without restricting warehouse operations or future flexibility.

Outcome

The completed works provided DSV / DB Schenker with the electrical and communications infrastructure required to support the reconfigured 3PL warehouse.

The project brought together distribution, high-level lighting infrastructure, operational power, forklift charging and site-wide connectivity within a single coordinated electrical package.
